Pros
Working with lots of different kids and families, getting to see different things you might not see without littles in your life. If a job gets cancelled on short notice you still get a few hours (3 I think?) of pay even though you didnt work. They provide things like coloring books and basic craft supplies.
Cons
No benefits, no sick days - At the annual meeting we were told we still have to go to work unless we have a fever of at least 102°. I have been told I should still work even when I was vomiting nonstop. Pay is low, and hours are very inconsistent. Depending on your state, you could probably qualify for medical assistance and food stamps, but some states require you to work a minimum of 20 hours a week to get assistance, and I've times where I only got 12 hours the entire 2 week pay period despite marking full availability. On call jobs are only required to give you 3 hours notice, though I have been woken up to phone calls asking me if I can change my availability and be at a job in 20 minutes. You can say no in those instances, but it is frustrating. If you schedule yourself to be available at 8am, make sure to wake up at 5am to check that you didn't get scheduled fir 8am while you were sleeping. I have had frequent cancellations, often more than a dozen per month. Not a great job if you can't handle a schedule in constant flux. No direct mileage or supplies reimbursemnt. You have to save that for when you're doing your taxes. This can be a problem on a low pay cycle when you get a job 40 miles out during rush hour and cant afford gas. They ask for your travel radius and availability but consistently ignore it. Make sure to give yourself extra time off when marking your availability. If your class gets out at 3, don't mark that you are available at 3 because inevitably you will get scheduled a job for 3 or even 2:30 20 miles away. Apparently their scheduling system doesn't work, because I have been double booked multiple times. They want you to keep your phone on silent/in your bag the whole shift, but then will blow up your phone/text/email the whole shift trying to assign you other jobs and being rude about your lack of response. If you're not checking your phone they might schefule you to end a job at 1pm in one city and start another job at 1pm 20 miles away (happened to me multiple times).
