Can be great but also extremely draining - Nanny/Sitter Jovie Employee Review

Pros

Flexible schedule (theoretically) and working with kids can definitely be super fun and very rewarding. Consistent nanny assignments, if you can get them, are especially enjoyable.

Cons

Work is difficult, low pay, low support, management can be unpredictable depending on which franchise you work for. You have the benefit of going through a service, which means you don't have to find clients yourself. However, you also have to commit to CNS and sign a non compete that applies for a year after you quit. So if you happen to find a family you love, tough. You're stuck. Management pressures you to do more, more, more especially if the franchise you work at is understaffed. Take this job, take another, burnt out? Too bad. Help at this event, take on this extra task, pick up another shift .... even though we're not paying enough for this! Aren't you supposed to be able to call out of work if you really need to? You might be kissing that luxury goodbye. You don't get breaks, so you're working long shifts straight through unless the kids nap, and even then, you're supposed to be doing anything you can to help out around the house. Boundaries are unclear - do I do the dishes? Clean the playroom? Can't I just sit down? I had shifts up to 12 hours with zero breaks. Again, it depends on who owns your franchise and how many employees they have. This was just my experience.

Pros

I've worked with Jovie Newport Beach since 2022. I started as an on-call nanny and worked my way up into administration. I am now in charge of recruitment, event coordination, and general management. I love the company culture and encourage families to use our services and for potential nannies to apply! I have met many great people through the Jovie network! It has been great!

Cons

I can't think of any cons!

Pros

Help find you a family to work with. I could see how this could perhaps be great for part time

Cons

LOW PAY for the job. After 3 years with Jovie, I was getting paid $16/hr and my full-time family was paying somewhere from $26-28/hr. They told my nanny family I was getting higher raises than I was. MUCH fairer companies out there. No PTO due to "not being salaried employees" even though that's not how PTO works! Constantly nagged about logging in my hours even though I was always on top of it. Going through them was a pain. Don't recommend. Always wondered if why they rebranded from College Nannies and Sitters was to try to separate from all the negative reviews.
