Pros

Cool culture, relaxed Fintech vibe, mostly smart folks, decent salary, legitimate mission to help community FI’s compete in a world where they’re losing market share by the day, remote work option.

Cons

Total addressable market is small and shrinking. Community FI’s are extremely conservative, and very slow to make changes. Kasasa has been selling into this market for almost 20 years. It’s saturated and they’ve scooped up the low hanging fruit already. Massive turnover in the C-suite. Sales leadership is lacking experience and a realistic outlook for the business. Mass layoffs. They fired 90% of our BDR’s at the end of 2022, fired the CSO, CMO, then outlined a goal to somehow 10X sales in 2023. What? Also, changed job description dramatically beginning January 2023, then proceeded to put good sales people on PIP’s after only several weeks, suggesting activity (which is loosely tracked at best) wasn’t sufficient. The new chief growth officer drinks the kool-aid. Takes credit for successes, no responsibility for failures. Will throw anyone under the bus to save face and career trajectory. SVP’s are a mixed bag. Decent stepping stone if you’re looking to get into Fintech/SaaS, but don’t expect things to be great.

Hello Spartan! Oof, this one was hard to read. Even still, I appreciate this feedback so much and I’m going to do my best to unpack your concerns. So, let’s dive right in! First, thank you so much for your kind words about our culture, our people, and our mission. These are the most important things to us and it means so much to me that you recognize our efforts in these areas. Now on to the tougher stuff. Our clients are the lifeblood of everything we do. CFIs and the communities they serve are why we work so hard to be a partner to them, more than just a vendor. We believe in their purpose and mission, and our communities need them now more than ever. We’ve seen some devastating things happen in recent years, and in the past, we haven’t done such a great job of being a partner to our clients. We’re actively working to correct that and making strides every day. No matter how volatile the CFI market gets, we’ll be right there to support and guide them. We’re not reaching for low-hanging fruit, we’re reaching way up to the top and supporting as many FIs as we can. A fundamental difference in the way we engage with our clients meant that we had to approach the business differently. Difficult decisions were made, some of the hardest we’ve ever made. The C-Suite restructure came as a result, but I’m afraid that you may be misconceiving some of those details. In the same vein, we had to adjust roles and responsibilities to reflect our new mission for the clients and the business. They weren’t intended to be a blindside or surprise, but that’s usually how sudden change feels. There are many misconceptions during changes like this, strategic things that aren’t always be communicated thoroughly (another thing we’re working to be better at.) All of your advice to management has been forwarded on, I promise. We use these comments to make healthy changes, and comments like yours matter to us very much. We know we’re not perfect, and we know we never will be, but we’ll keep trying hard to be a good place to work and a strong partner for our clients. They need us as much as we need them. And we need people like you, willing to say the hard things and show us our shortcomings. I’d love to talk with you about your opinions and ideas, and hopefully clear up some confusion there is around changes that were made. Please feel free to contact me whenever you’re ready and we’ll help each other find clarity and understanding as a good team does! Dear Spartan, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for the many years you spent with Kasasa. We’re glad to hear you experienced strong coworker relationships and a fun culture during your time here. We’re also sorry to hear that your experience with leadership, management support, and compensation did not meet expectations. Feedback like this is difficult to read, but it is important. We take concerns about leadership effectiveness, fairness, and employee experience seriously, and we know those areas have a direct impact on trust in the workplace. While we can’t speak to individual experiences in a public forum, we are committed to listening, learning, and improving. If you’re open to it, I’d welcome the opportunity to connect with you directly to better understand your experience. We appreciate you sharing your perspective and wish you the best in what’s next.
