I can honestly say that every leader space in which I sit is focused on retaining great talent and supporting the people who work incredibly hard for students and families. Teachers and leaders are strongly supported by a robustly-staff Network Team -- operations, technology, data, etc. Our philosophy is that teacher and leader time should be spent on the things that only teachers and leaders can do, and the Network Team makes sure that can happen.

I'm sure similar to the work at any high-performing school, the work never feels finished. The world changes, student and family needs evolve, and talent priorities shift over time. It's incredibly rewarding, but the job is never done.

Being a security officer at a school comes with many positives, starting with the opportunity to make a real difference in students’ lives every day. You help create a safe, stable environment where kids can focus on learning, building confidence, and growing into their best selves. Beyond safety, the role allows you to build meaningful relationships with students, teachers, and staff, often becoming a trusted presence and role model on campus. The job also brings a strong sense of purpose, knowing that your awareness, quick thinking, and compassion can prevent problems before they start and support students when they need it most. In many ways, school security isn’t just about protection—it’s about leadership, mentorship, and being a positive force in the community.

While being a school security officer can be rewarding, it also comes with challenges. The job can be emotionally and mentally demanding, especially when dealing with student conflicts, safety threats, or crisis situations. You may face high stress, long hours, and the pressure of having to make quick decisions that impact others. At times, the role can feel thankless, as much of the hard work happens behind the scenes and goes unnoticed. Despite these difficulties, the responsibility of keeping others safe is a heavy one that requires constant focus and resilience.
