Pros

The mission of KCTCS is honorable but there is no capable person in leadership. Benefits are good but are no longer outstanding.

Cons

KCTCS is being held hostage by 2 "attorneys" who have captivated the Board of Regents by not allowing anyone with sense to interact with them. They spew legal jargon that is unnecessary and untrue which makes others follow their lead (reluctantly). The "attorneys" should stick to what they know (which isn't much) and stay out of the business of Higher Education - they are destroying the Community College System that the state of Kentucky desperately needs. They need to be held accountable but no one in leadership knows how to reign them in.

Pros

Co-workers are awesome. You genuinely do some good for the community by educating a diverse array of engaged students. That's about it.

Cons

Admin expect you to do well over 100 hours of interval service, external service, and elective PD in your first year on top of a massive slate of an utterly useless new faculty program. All of this as a brand new faculty member just trying to get your feet under you will drown you while you get paid about $10,000 less than if you'd just gone to teach at the local high school. You'll also be expected to learn how to advise students outside of your area of expertise with an archaic program that Satan himself created: PeopleSoft. Higher-ups tend to ignore serious faculty council concerns and everyone just kind of shrugs and resigns themselves to concerns being addressed as quickly as molasses in winter, if at all.
