I titled this review “it could have been great” because KSL really could be. This organization is unlike any other that I have worked for previously and has a ton of potential to be a super successful business as well as a great place to work. i think KSL suffers from years of bad employer behavior/tendencies being normalized. So whenever they do try to change it is a very slow process and it ends up seeming like the employees aren’t being heard at all. This is a long review, but I would definitely recommend considering all of this before taking a position at KSL: -leadership can be very vague or straight up dodge the question when asked questions in regard to current programming, scheduling, and availability. Often times if you dont continue to press for clarity and ask questions, you won’t get a clear answer. They would often just repeat what you asked them back to you and go on this long tangent instead of just answering the question. -Many of the staff, both old and new, are extremely over worked and in my opinion under appreciated. Prepare to be overworked and exhausted. Outside of the summer when they hire a bunch of part timers, they are severely understaffed.Staff was often told of updates on the program the day before it was to happen or sometimes the day of, then expected to adapt. - Like many reviewers have said previously, your job will start off one way but they will slowly begin to add more and more tasks such as training new staff without any type of compensation or pay increase -the turnover here is sky high. So many people have quit in the past year alone because they’re moving on to better paying, more suitable opportunities. KSL should be a place that people want to stay at and grown in, but almost all of the long term staff have left. Why? -the company at this time is very small. That being said, their currently is no official “HR” department at all. The one “hr” person at KSL technically does a different role as well but just stepped into HR because the company doesn’t have anyone else to do it. On top of that, this HR person is the boss of many of the staff. Not that it happened, but it was very unsettling to think that if you had a problem with this person and they are the one you would technically go to about these problems, where would you go? -veteran staff are not really celebrated or appreciated. There were a few amazing people who put years into KSL but then left with no acknowledgement from the leadership. In fact you often wouldn’t learn about someone leaving unless you heard it from someone else. I understand that it may be hurtful to the leadership when someone who’s been here long term leaves, but if a good employee who put in 2+ years of work at KSL isn’t celebrated, the new people definitely won’t be. I’ve seen amazing people with a true talent working with kids fired without any prior notice. -in general ksl is lacking majorly in the communication department. Leaders were constantly scheduling meetings and they rescheduling at the last minute. There were several times where i was prepared for a meeting planned a week before and then a few minutes before it was supposed to start it was cancelled. This practice made many staff members including myself feel like our time was a non factor to them.
