Pros
I love the people I work with and my supervisors and it makes coming to work enjoyable. I'm proud of the work we do and hearing from families how much it has helped their child with Autism. The children in my programs look forward to coming to KidsPeace every day and I'm proud to be a part of that. I enjoy how often I have the opportunities to work with staff in other programs and departments within KidsPeace. There are a lot of opportunities for training, career development, and advancement within the organization as well. It makes me feel connected to the organization as a whole. Our new CEO and leadership at KidsPeace has a great vision for our future and I have already seen positive change within the organization under his leadership. I am excited to see where we go from here!
Cons
Working with children with special needs and/or children in mental health crisis is not for everyone and it is not an easy job. Social service positions are not high paying jobs, especially in the not-for profit world. KidsPeace is not the place to go if you want to be rich, but it is the place to go if you want to make a difference.
