Pros

Excellent patient outcomes. The work they do is phenomenal. To see a patient come in with a pretty poor prognosis and then walk out the door with positive outcomes is the biggest reason I stayed. I felt like I was making a difference. The nursing staff at the Central location is amazing. While they lack in some areas of teamwork, they are hardworking and friendly.

Cons

Oh so many Cons... too many to list actually, but here are a few: *Horrible benefits with high premiums. They only match 25 cents per dollar for 401K and there are very little perks. *staffing - 30 patients to 1 case manager at times which led to turn-over and burn out of staff. Then when the census dipped into the single digits, I lost an FTE and they would not allow me to fill the position again for several months even though the census only stayed that low for a couple of weeks and shot back up leaving the case manager with an overwhelming caseload. *overwhelming amounts of work - I was director over 2 hospitals and short staffed at both hospitals, therefore, I was carrying a full caseload on top of my director duties. Not to mention, they "cut back" leadership staff and I was doing things that were not a part of my role (such as leading job fairs and doing payroll and scheduling for the nursing staff) to keep the hospital afloat. *Terrible leadership - no support from upper leadership *Mean staff - the nursing staff at Kindred Indianapolis North is nasty and mean. Other nurses would come to help from the Central location and the nurses at North would treat them horribly. *Bullying allowed - The Director of Nursing and Clinical Services was a bully and played favoritism. This was reported to leadership and compliance, but nothing was ever done. *CCO/COO at Indianapolis North was a bully. She yells at staff and does not value them. She will talk good about you to your face, then turn around and talk nasty about you to everyone else. *Inconsistent work and unsafe nursing conditions - nursing and CNA staff would frequently be called off due to low census. Then census would go back up into the 30s again and nurse to patient ratio went to 6 or 7 to 1. These are high acuity ventilator patients, so not safe at all.

Pros

- Patient population provides excellent sense of purpose and accomplishment

Cons

Prospective clinicians should exercise extreme caution before accepting a position at this facility. During my time here, I experienced a severe lack of administrative and clinical support during a critical patient safety event. When I advocated for a patient whose acuity had clearly escalated beyond the capabilities of the current unit, management repeatedly refused to facilitate a higher acuity unit transfer. This left me to manage a dangerously unstable clinical situation almost entirely alone, directly compromising patient safety and creating an environment ripe for adverse events. Rather than offering support and conducting a constructive review of the system failures that led to this stress, administration chose to retaliate. When I took time off to process the intense distress caused by their clinical negligence, management and administration marred my professional record with false accusations regarding my performance and attendance. This facility does not support its frontline staff, ignores critical patient escalation needs, and uses retaliatory tactics to cover up administrative shortfalls. I highly recommend all patients, referral sources, and clinicians, look elsewhere if they value their license and mental well-being.
