I think Kirkland's could improve just a few areas and it would make it a new company. - Anonymous employee Kirkland's Employee Review

Pros

Friendly co-workers. A great place to work if you love interacting with customers and are handy with common household tools ( hammer, box cutter, screw drive). You get a nice discount on the merchandise which is why most people who work there are over 40 and typically female.

Cons

Being younger I felt like i was taken advantage of because I did most of the lifting and climbing in the stock room. Not to mention I was chosen to work every monday morning at 5 AM to unload the truck while veteran employees never did. I was constantly micromanaged for even the most mindless tasks

Pros

Some good coworkers. Some of the customers. Decent discount.

Cons

Schedule, put out every week. No time for planning anything without asking for time off if you need to schedule vet appointments or health care. You have to switch shifts with someone if you're sick, or you have to go in and contaminate your coworkers and customers too. If you don't show up because you physically can't, you will be written up like you never called in. Open - close hours switch throughout the year 9am - 9pm, again makes planing anything difficult. Truck days begin at 5am, regardless of bad hazardous weather. You will unload furniture, heavy mirrors and art, along with a couple hundred boxes of other stuff. Then you have to unpack it all, assemble furniture that never goes together right, and put everything away too. The manager has people moving the whole store around on a weekly basis. She is the only one who ever gets to sit on every shift. The assistant manager is rude and unprofessional. It's a thankless job. There are no raises, no possibility for advancement, no bonuses (except for management), and no full time opportunities at all. If you choose to apply here, be prepared to work under unsafe and risky conditions.
