Pros
The products they make are incredible, great and original products. They’re increasing their reach to users every month. The content team is filled with wonderful, talented creators that are friendly, caring, and 10/10 the best part of working at Kognito.
Cons
A recent acquisition lead to a culture change. There are new (2018) changes that add structure to pay increases and promotions - which is great! Although, it is difficult to earn those perks (coming from someone who did reap those rewards). But the other benefits of having a parent company are minimal; there’s a huge lack of involvement of HR. They are scaling but also cleaning house. The new additions to the management team (at least on the content team) have contributed to the negative culture. There feels like a lot of blame culture and it’s very hard to meet expectations. Upper management can be very defensive, aggressive, and curt. I believe that they are nice people, aside from strong personalities, and are easy to connect with not related to work. However, they seem to have selfish intentions that only benefit them. There seems to be a lack of trust from top down due to micromanagement, petty criticism, and lack of praise. I would only recommend this company to someone who is comfortable working with a place that is growing out of a start up culture, has a lot of energy and patience, and or has the experience (and confidence) to foster and facilitate change to the company’s culture and processes. Client Experience and Sales teams are growing fast than the production team. Aka creative teams are small and have heavy work loads when the sales + client management teams are growing and bringing in more work.
