Pros
Executives make good money however average work weeks run 50-60 hours. 70-80 during holidays. Huge disconnect between corporate and the store level. Payroll has been cut at the store level making it extremely hard to run your store successfully yet corporate is adding jobs at the corporate level. Front line associates are treated like garbage. Corporate obviously does not care about their front lines. It is up the stores management to make it palatable for them. Corporate does not invest well in technology and hardware. For example cash registers that are 7 years old and constantly failing which only frustrates customers. KOHLS has trained iis' customers to be rude and obnoxious to its' associates. There is seldom a No told to a customer. The return policy is a joke. Allowing customers to return things that are worn out from use, or for example baby clothes that have been outgrown. The company is always looking for ways to save money but has this totally lax approach to returns. The company sets unrealistic goals for the starting payroll allowances it has. Store managers have far too much influence on performance reviews. You can have outstanding ratings on measurable metrics yet a store manager can rate you unsatisfactory if they so chose and can make up completely arbitrary excuses as to why they feel you are not succeeding. Overall, if you have a strong, fair, and mentoring manager you can have a great career at KOHLS. However, if you have a manager who does not invest themselves in you and develops you, you will quickly come to hate your job.
Cons
Poor communication on all levels. Lack of store support from corporate. Too much "figure it out" style of coaching. Petty backstabbing co workers. Far too much gossip and rumors are allowed. Favorites are allowed. Uniform policy adherence is not practiced.
