Pros

Experience is a major pro, you’ll gain valuable experience working here that can be applied anywhere else You team memebers become family and you really learn how to work as a team and get things done together Some supervisors are amazing and understand the struggle of recovering and clearing two fitting in misses by yourself on a busy Saturday night Always doing something, and you will learn more than just your designated department which is great experience There’s opportunity’s to grow within as well as take on more responsibility

Cons

With the experience you will gain you realize as a regular sales associate the amount you get paid for all that you do is really not worth it. You only get paid minimum wage, but are expected to do so much and cover other departments, work prices changes, and stay longer than your schdeuleds shifts especially during closing. I believe Kohls doesn’t pay employees their worth. And the only increase you get is a couple cents a year. Team members are like family and many of them will support you and you will supports them, but the amount of call outs that happen is so overwhelming and it starts to become unfair for those who are trying to enjoy their days off but every week they are getting calls to come in. I came in a lot which was fine, but the managers will start to abuse it and call you every single time there’s a call out. I just wish they would just give me the hours rather than to those who would always call out. One shift six people called out and that’s just ridiculous. I understand Kohls cannot do anything about that really when they can’t guarantee the people they hire will call out that much, but there needs to be better rules about this when they do. The amount of chances an employee gets to call out is too much. If you work MJM or the floor especially at the Kohls I worked there was unrealistic expectations about recovery during closing shifts. One person for a huge misses department on a busy Saturday night and they still expect two clean fitting rooms with nothing in it and mind you Kohls does not have a limit on how many clothes a customer can bring in so you can walk in with thirty items just laying on the floor. But all while you clean the fitting rooms they want both misses departments fully recovered, but while you’re trying to do all that and help customers you will be asked to cover or back up the registers or jewelry for a good amount of time which takes away recovery time. It’s just not realistic. Some supervisors/managers will understand and some will not. Also if you’re closing you’re expected to stay a good amount of time after which I believe Kohls needs to stop doing. The stores closed, what’s done is done and what is not is not. There is no point in trying to stay so long after at night. The morning team and mid day team that come in should be required to do what wasn’t able to be done at night. Honestly the amount you do will end up being a lot as you stay longer at Kohls, but the amount you get paid for it will never make it feel worth it. And it becomes so repititive and old really quick you will get burnt out of it because nothing really changes to make it somewhat easier or tolerable for the employees. Your hours are very inconsistent which is typical retail, but you would think Kohls makes enough to give their employees more hours. You will be required to shove Kohls charges cards down customers throats, that is priority and absolutely number one thing for Kohls. They are all about making sure people are signing up for Kohls charges cards and if you’re a POS Associate make sure you know how to upsell cause your hours and job depend on it. The manager at my store always told us to ask three times even when they say no, just keep asking which in return would upset a good amount of customers. But why does that matter? As long as the right customer comes along and they might just say yes so keep doing it.

Pros

Pay is very good once you start getting raises. Weekly pay

Cons

Genuinely everything else, the pay is that high because they have to pay you over 25 just to put up with the awful environment. terrible structure, terrible management, no accountability, cliquey mean girl environment. managers are allowed to sit around and do essentially nothing while supervisors carry 100% of the load and there is no checks and balances to ensure management does the right thing. Corporate and HR genuinely don't care if certain people sit on their butt While others keep the business running. Credit card pushing is absolutely Off the Wall insane. Getting enough credit cards is all the company cares about and managers do not help. Managers are allowed to have no history with getting any credit cards at all and corporate doesn't bat an eye. If you try to speak out about anything that's going on you'll just get fired. Retaliation is allowed and encouraged.
