Pros
Income has good potential to reach 6 figures for an RN, although yearly raises max at 2% which doesn’t meet cost of living, PTO accrual good, insurance could be better, although I’ve seen worse, working environment depends on the branch, the ability to make a difference in the lives of many is priceless, develop excellent time management skills.
Cons
Policies tend to be vague & subject to branch interpretation, milage reimbursement needs improvement, overwhelmed & burnout is very real, & flexibility is just “a word”. You must be dedicated to your job & you are at high risk of allowing this job to run your life 24/7. These are people you are caring for & they will call you at 2 am when your not on call asking for assistance with a Walmart curbside pick up order or when will their therapist be there. They are non-compliant & that’s why we are ordered. We educate until we have no voice left, we assist with housing, obtaining homemaker assist. We check their mail, walk their dog, listen to their woe’s or we are trying to get their attention & the patient says Your here for my vitals & change my dressing. You attempt to edu during the procedure, all has fell upon deaf ears, the non-compliance is not improving, wound healed, time to DC, yet someone who only knows the patient on paper will not allow for the money.
