Pros

Benefits (Health Insurance and Paid Time Off), Free Parking, Casual Dress Code. Non Director level employees were good, honest, hard working people

Cons

Rated 1 star because if I left it blank you may think I skipped that part! I worked at the corporate office and it was a very unpleasant experience. I was micro managed beyond belief. Then when I would not micro manage my staff or write them up for the most silly mundane things I would be treated unfairly. This company really does look for any stupid reason to write someone up. I heard it said many of times to document everything we can so we have a case when we fire them. Basically you show up day one and they are already plotting a case against you. At one point I was working 12+ hour days and it still was never good enough. Nothing you could ever do was good enough. I repeatedly would hear conversations about prior employees and that "they sucked" or "Well we were going to fire him/ her...." These statements were untrue. It was all delusional so they could feel like nobody that was good would actually resign working there. Often times these reviews are biased, but I have read the other reviews posted for this company and they are spot on - I witnessed the same events by the same people mentioned. There is a small circle of people running that company and if you are not liked by them then you will be forced out - they will find a way. I witnessed people harassed and abused (mentally and physically) by Sr Management. One Director would lash out at staff and throw objects at them in disgust - YES, I witnessed that! It is really a shame because this could be a wonderful place to work since it has a great mission. This was by far the worst place I have ever worked. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Best decision I made was quitting - I was begged to stay even though I later found out from former coworkers that I "Sucked".... Not surprising, as that was the story I always heard about anyone else who left.

Pros

I have worked in many areas through my nursing career. In the hospital environment I worked in critical care areas, the long term care environment, sub-acute care and home care. Yet none of them have provided the satisfaction of working at Life Pittsburgh. They truly care for their participants, going above and beyond time and time again. The work environment is really wonderful. I feel no hesitation in going to my supervisor when I have a question or need help. I work with a great nursing team at the center in McKees Rocks and we totally support each other, helping each other and working with other disciplines to provide for our participants. Nursing at Life Pittsburgh is very busy and you will never be bored! Want a career where you are appreciated, have fun and make a huge difference? Come join the nursing team at Life Pittsburgh - you'll be happy you did!

Cons

On-call for one spring time and one winter holiday.

Pros

Overall, I truly enjoyed the work itself and the participants we served. The mission of helping elderly individuals remain safely living in the community is meaningful, and many of the frontline staff are incredibly dedicated to providing the best care possible with the resources they are given.

Cons

Unfortunately, the organizational culture makes it very difficult for good employees to stay long term. Upper management is extremely micromanaging and involved in nearly every detail, leaving little to no room for managers to actually lead their teams. Leadership inserts itself into situations that should be handled at the management level, which undermines staff and creates unnecessary inefficiencies. Communication expectations are also inconsistent. Emails from staff often go unanswered, yet leadership expects immediate responses when they reach out. The role is salaried, but employees are expected to rigidly adhere to an 8:00–4:30 schedule with little flexibility, even if you routinely stay late or work beyond normal hours. There is no trust in upper management due to their repeated poor decisions. Their leadership style significantly contributes to the culture within the organization however, they fail to make any meaningful actions to change this. One of the many ongoing frustrations was watching strong/hardworking employees run circles around others who consistently underperformed, yet were allowed to remain employed. Meanwhile, the employees doing the heavy lifting were expected to continue compensating for the gaps. Anyone who voluntarily leaves this company is a real loss to the organization. Many of those individuals are the ones who care deeply about the participants and are doing everything they can to provide excellent care despite limited resources. Technology is also severely outdated and inefficient, which creates unnecessary barriers to doing the job effectively. Additionally, they do not support professional growth and there is no incentive to remain loyal to the company. I no longer work for this organization, but the experience still stands out—especially now that I work for an employer with strong leadership and a supportive culture. The contrast is striking. Knowing that the leadership structure and culture appear largely unchanged is what ultimately compelled me to share this experience. The company continues to operate largely because of its long standing presence, NOT because it has evolved. Until upper management changes, the same policies and procedures will likely remain in place some of which, I might add, appear to date back to 2012.
