Pros
Excellent learning opportunity, for outside sales experience in Houston oil & gas industry. I was lucky enough to work with some great people while there, but very high turnover so it's a roll of the dice for that. Decent compensation if you fight for it. Interesting product to learn about and sell, lots of variety in day to day work so never gets boring.
Cons
Distributor is a very small family owned company, with everything that goes along with that. Management is overbearing. You're expected to get up at 4 am for an early meeting 90 minutes away, but don't expect to take off at 4:30 pm on a Friday. Cameras were installed all over the interior of the office, so management can keep an eye on you even when they're not there... which is just the worst kind of environment for salespeople. Terrible company history and reputation, from years and years of bad decisions. No possibility of career growth, since it's such a small org. Benefits were terrible. No insurance, no retirement contribution for one year, no company trucks in an industry where that's pretty essential and normal. The main factory is such a ridiculous operation. VERY bad management. It's a mess.
