Pros

In a rising market, this can be a great place. The corporate values are well crafted and in many places lived. There are truly amazing, caring, super-smart and dedicated people throughout the organization.

Cons

To be absolutely clear, the recent elimination of temps and layoffs were for one purpose and one purpose only to appease the stock market. Study the financials and there is no reason to make such massive cuts. But that is what you get when your company is held at something above 80% by institutional investors. As a senior exec, with millions riding on the stock and these investors, you do what they allude to. (Then as was here, within a week of the cuts, the CEO staff received their "incentive" pay outs, look at the SEC reports, it is shocking). This has truly exposed the hypocrisy of senior management that speaks a good game about caring for it's employees, but really only care about their massive compensation.

Pros

Opportunities to support global activities

Cons

Heavy micromanagement — frequent revisions on ppt to minor details like font size and colors. Frequently calling staffs even after work hours and lunch time. Manager often takes on additional work from other teams without considering current team workload, So the manager appears supportive and “nice” externally but creates additional burden to the subordinates. Manager controls team budget strictly for team-building activities (events and meals), team members feel restrictive and reluctant to participate, for example team members dare not order appetizers, dessert or drinks on top of entrees during team events. Manager used up most of the travel budget. Biz trip and personal travel boundaries are unclear, especially when manager frequently has business trips overlaps with personal travel. Seems like manager using biz trip to get free hotel and free air tickets for PTO.
