Pros

I'm working here part time while I'm attending the nearby university. It's a diverse environment with PIs, post docs, students, and international users. I don't know much in the terms of funding and other doctoral concerns, but I know that the lab is much better funded than the ones down on campus. The floor I work in has a great dynamic and no drama. Even though I'm a undergraduate student, I feel like I have a lot of control but also mentoring when I need it.

Cons

I can only work on the weekdays for when the shuttle is available. I work a varied amount of hours a week for units for school, but they often expect more than the promised hours. By this point, it's a given that you'll spend 3-4 hours more a week than stated. Also, pay is only available in the summer.

Pros

Opportunity to work on impactful scientific and engineering projects that support research and innovation. Exposure to multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, scientists, technicians, and project managers. Strong focus on safety, quality, and technical excellence. Good work-life balance and professional development opportunities. Ability to contribute to long-term projects with significant national and scientific importance.

Cons

Large organizations can have multiple layers of review and approval, which may slow decision-making. Processes and documentation requirements can be extensive, especially for safety and compliance purposes. Project priorities can shift based on funding and organizational needs, requiring flexibility and adaptability.
