Pros

Decent pay - starts at 47,300 in Lee County vacation days Union workforce Students can be really sweet Excellent co-workers Job security Vision and dental insurance are pretty good

Cons

The governor does not value our life Pay does not increase on a regular basis You are never "off the clock" LOTS of work away from the school Kids can be terrible Ridiculous testing regime Early start for high school - 1st period begins at 7:05am Year-to-year contracts means you are at the mercy of your principal. Disrespect from the community at large Parents can be worse than the kids Health insurance is stupidly expensive

Pros

We get June and July off.

Cons

This is the hardest job I have ever had, for the lowest pay. There is almost no time to plan lessons and grade. We are expected to be either lecturing or moving around the classroom at all times to make sure that students aren't playing games on the computers that the school gave them. Honors classes are based on behavior, rather than ability. We also have to stand in the hallway holding the door open and host breakfast in our classrooms (because the students fight in the cafeteria) before school begins.
