Business Outlook
Pros
Lots of overtime opportunities because of constant staff shortages. Regular hours, regular days off, with the exception of holidays. Because it’s a design hub, the job is relatively safe from cutbacks and layoffs, especially in the journalism business.
Cons
No raises have been given for the past 10 years. High-stress work environment. Can get monotonous, design-wise. Heavily templated design doesn’t provide many opportunities for portfolio-worthy work.
