Pros
Recently I took a month off of Paid Family Leave (PFL). I’ve never felt so well taken care of in a company before. Honestly it felt like a mini-sabbatical – really it was a great opportunity to learn and bond with my newest kid. What an important thing to do.
Also, just about everyone I ran into said “wow that’s impressive” and “you sure are lucky” and “my company didn’t offer that” and I heard and shared all sorts of stories about the transition to parenthood, and how LegalZoom has greatly assisted in my own. I realize FMLA is law but I’m sure our company made decisions about how to best comply and support our staff. All told it was a great experience.
Thanks to California too. All parents should be so lucky to take advantage of such work benefits, across the whole country (and they do not). It’s a real privilege; albeit a just one. I’m happy to be back, and happy to report everything went well.
Cons
FMLA paperwork is tiresome (but it has to be filled out either way)
