it takes a lot of effort to stay sane - Product Manager Leica Microsystems Employee Review

Pros

- team is diverse (gender not so much, but nationalities and backgrounds) - one can learn on his own if he/she wants - great products - some team members are amazing people both professionally and personally.

Cons

- for the time I was there, new employees onboarding is practically inexistent (there's an official process where boxes are ticked, in reality it's not an immersion; I and coworkers I know did a lot on our own and that consumes energy for months) --> if you're new to the industry/job, good luck. - little to no trust between some leadership and employees, both way (during my time there; maybe has changed meanwhile). - some group leaders carry a lot of responsibility besides being responsible for their people, which means compromising on leading people a big time in order to satisfy the bosses above. I had to deal with a lot of fire without my manager's support. This is also a pro, where one can learn, but it has become a downside with time because it's too much absence of support. - if you are not talkative, your seniors assume you are not doing enough. Loud people get the attention. - matrix structure makes things more complicated, with a lot of hierarchy. That's the case in other matrix companies. - atrocity rate of employees was relatively high - salary is low versus market value (figured this out later) -huge difference between men and women's salary for same position and taking the experience into account (obviously not so many women there anyway) - HR leadership was aggressive and arrogant (don't know if that changed) - Leadership where I was, was micro controlling/trust issues, and talking to employees about their coworker(s), instead of addressing directly any issue in face without back talking. - chaotic - Danaher (mother company) squeezes each little penny out of the daughter company, to increase their margins/reduce costs. This implies strict, nonsense and long processes at all levels (travel approval, open office with no concentration possibility, a lot of top-bottom changes and decisions, etc.). - Mostly all men there (employees and leadership), especially the older ones, should learn how to deal with women coworkers with respect, and accept that women are as competent as they are if not more where valid. I have witnessed and heard about many disrespectful situations where inappropriate remarks have been said to women employees, with no safety margin to report the behavior/remark, because those remarks or behaviors come from the boss or the boss's boss or the colleague upon whom this woman is relying for her immersion. In addition to educating them, a safe way should be found to protect the women undergoing such situations when they report their coworker or boss. - 'customers first' is the slogan. In reality, Danaher is first, then customers, and at no point are their own employees well-being which is sad.

Thank you for your open feedback which will help us to improve. It is sad to hear that your memory of your time at Leica is negative, while in our anonymous employee survey, 80% of our associates say they would recommend us as an employer. It is rather difficult in your case to differentiate between issues that we need to improve as a company and a subjective perspective on a difficult relationship between your manager and yourself that just did not work out. So let’s have a look at the points we can directly address. We constantly work to improve our onboarding process and have just rolled out an updated Global Onboarding Program with great guidance for new team members and their managers incl. resources like videos, links and trainings. Danaher and Leica Microsystems is also going to great lengths to further enhance the diversity in our teams and continue to drive for an inclusive work environment as we believe that this will strengthen us as a team and help us creating better products and services for our customers. We also train our managers on a regular basis to ensure they know how to be great leaders with passion and heart. So, it is of course devastating to hear that you had such a negative experience here. I am surprised however that you did not know how to safely report this internally as this part of our mandatory annual compliance training. I am a female myself and not only have I always been treated appropriately and respectful, but I can also see many female colleagues develop and maintaining a great career here at Leica Microsystems. Thank you again for your feedback, we wish you all the best and hope that you find a company for yourself where you feel comfortable. Unfortunately, in this case we were not able to be such a company for you.

Pros

This is a great company with a very clear value proposition. The work genuinely matters, and you can really make a difference through what you do every day. There’s a strong sense of purpose, and it’s easy to see how individual contributions connect to the bigger picture. The people are another major strength. Talented, collaborative, and genuinely supportive colleagues make this a great environment to do meaningful work. It’s also a place where you can truly be yourself—differences are respected, and authenticity is valued. For those who are genuinely committed and willing to put in the effort, there are real career opportunities and room to grow. Overall, it’s a rewarding place where strong values, impactful work, and great people come together.
