Pros

Unlimited vacation (must still be manager approved) Parking is free

Cons

Pay: severely underpaid. Bonuses are always at about 1%, inflation outpaces raises. Management: - Roles are dissected and the parts of roles that look good on a resume are taken on by managers. Ie. Project Management, Manager takes care of all the funding, risks, etc, PMs just execute the plan. - If you kiss butt you get the better bonuses/raises. Make a huge mistake, and cause company hundreds of thousands of dollars, don't worry just kiss some butt. You will be reassigned but still have a job - Performance only comes into play when they want to get rid of you, the find the smallest of reasons to weed people out - Empire building drives personnel decisions, some managers just want more people reporting to them - Promotions are not given to the most qualified, usually given to the loudest voice in the room - Business continuity plans are skewed to keep the 'good ol' boys', and used when the yearly layoffs occur Training: - Very little if any training courses available to employees - typically the software area will choose one or two people to get training, and then they come back and give a watered down version of the training to coworkers Workload: - Ever increasing people laid off each year means their tasks/workload gets passed on to the remaining employees Red flags: - Most job postings are for internships/students (cheap labor) - Dying industry - promotions because there is a someone in the seat, not based on accomplishment - lack of roadmaps, usually delivered 6 months into the year. little to no direction - no investment in employees - substandard pay for roles Diversity: - just a buzz word that is used to get federal contracts - word used when hiring models for catalogs

Pros

Solid software team working with modern frameworks in the cloud. Products are simple but have complex and unique scaling needs across printer fleets and print release. Great people, even able to make long time friends.

Cons

Leadership is risk adverse. Coming from hardware their release processes can be burdensome and overly cautious. Innovation stagnates due to this but also, layoffs are a common place which creates concern and risks each year.
