Pros
Supervisors/middle management in IT seem to care about their employees and encourage a friendly work environment. My current immediate supervisors are some of the best I've had at any workplace. Tuition benefits are good and are the main reason about 70% of employees continue to work here. Retirement matching up to 5% of yearly salary seems to be higher than average.
Cons
With a handful of exceptions, upper management seems to forget that they have actual people working for them. Wages are significantly (about 25% or more from my personal experience) lower than industry averages in the area. Upper management does not recognize workers that take on odd or unusual tasks and only considers metrics when handing out promotions. Many times these metrics are inaccurate or are too general to accurately reflect individual performance. Jerry Falwell Jr. is far more interested in using his position to gain the ear of political pundits than running a university that benefits the lives of the students that attend the university. Additionally, the online course offerings are abysmal and in many cases I have been able to find materials online for free that offer better information than a $3000+ course. You have to pay the university for the privilege of going to work by having the cost of a parking pass deducted from your pay. Even after that there is no employee-only parking, so there are many, many instances where you cannot find a parking spot without having to walk or take a shuttle to your office. Turnover is incredibly high, since the pay is not competitive in the least. If you're not taking classes then why on earth are you working here!? To follow up with the last point, the University abuses it's status as a Christian university to exploit workers into accepting unfair pay under the guise of working for a higher purpose.
