Pros
The vast majority of the employees in my department subscribe to a Judaeo-Christian ethic. Their work ethic, technical ability, and the diversity of experience are truly vast. Team members will pull together to accomplish tasks. World class facilities. Educational benefits (so long as your benefits are under the tax threshold.)
Cons
I wrote a much longer and thorough review, but for fear of legal reprisal, I must keep this review somewhat vague. -Toxic executive culture. Rules do not apply to executives and they make you well aware of that. Pettifogging Tammany Hall Hucksters. -Fear and nepotism abound. Professional dissent/advisement is not allowed. Kowtow or be a pariah/fired. -Constant state of employee mass exodus. -Employees are hired on the basis of their expertise and then aren't utilized. -Pay is roughly 50% of national average. -Benefits do not outweigh the cost. -Morale is always low. -Advancement is non-existent. -Historical relations > professional ability. -Informational asymmetry. Pay scale is undefined and uniquely unfair. -Institutional inbreeding. -The University espouses Christian and Republican principles, but is run like a feudal kingdom. -Equipment is way off the industry standard. -Training is an afterthought. -Policies and procedures are ignored as soon as they are inconvenient. -Interdepartmental infighting to the detriment of accomplishing critical functions. -High turnover which degrades services.
