A good way to start a career in EMS - Paramedic LifeLine Ambulance (IL) Employee Review

Pros

Good coworkers who usually have the experience and and the necessary skills to respond to emergency calls. Do a decent job of making employee feel welcomed by sitting down with VP and owner to discuss any issues. If you've been there 2+ years it begins to feel like a family. Bit of a disgruntled family but a family nonetheless.

Cons

Pay for EMTs is awful (afterwards you'll understand why they always call off and you're stuck doing dialysis calls) and you have to negotiate your Paramedic pay. If you accept your first offer you'll quickly find a huge difference in your pay and other "new" employees. The usual politics with an ambulance company I.e. Favorites, the shut up and keep your head down at work etc. 24 hours have no quarters... that means the only time you'll get to lay down during your downtime is on the bench in the back or the stretcher after a rigorous cleaning while the ambulance is parked on the street. It won't take long until your back starts hurting or you get permanent damage (as many employees have and Lifeline will not cover). No 401K and insurance takes 3 months to kick in.
