Pros

The program works and helps a good number of kids.

Cons

The manager a few levels above me was the worst manager I've ever had at any job, and it's not close. The manager gave very vague directions (or none at all) and was not receptive to clarifying questions (favorite response: "you should already know how to do this." I heard this constantly during the six months I was there.) This meant we were constantly trying to read this manager's mind and we constantly failed, and it was frustrating and awful and everyone below this manager was miserable. My immediately manager was good, but the miserableness everyone experienced due to the manager above pervaded the entire location. After a month or two I actually thought I was awful at the job, but others were having even more difficulties interacting with that manager. I thought long and hard about giving this rating one star, and then I decided to bump it up to two stars because a lot of my co-workers (the teachers specifically) were great people who really worked hard to help kids, and my immediate manager wasn't the problem. But everyone was miserable all the time due to upper management. I quit in a wave of others who also quit because my great coworkers knew they deserved better. Everyone I liked had either quit or was in the process of quitting and everyone who was awful to work with was staying, so I knew it was time to leave. I actually think that as a company Lindamood-Bell might be kinda ok, but the specific office I worked in and position I took with them was probably the worst job I've ever had, and I'm confident it was due to the specific manager. I could write another 1,000 words on that specific manager and how awful they made everyone feel, but I don't want to, and the fact that a wave of my favorite co-workers quit or were in the process of quitting due to that manager says enough. Maybe other Lindamood-Bell offices are better, but I had an awful experience with mine. While writing this review, I really tried hard not to get overly negative, but working for this company was an incredibly negative experience and I don't recommend it at all.

Pros

It’s great to try to help people, but…

Cons

They’re so set on their particular philosophical style, but realistically, it cannot be one size fits all. Clinicians who work there are NOT experts; they only get two weeks of training. And the sessions are extremely tight, with back-to-back students (just five minutes between each, leaving no time to prepare for the next one and no chance for clinicians to catch a breath). Lessons take place in cramped, mostly shared spaces, so everyone tends to be over-stressed. There’s no way that what is taught there, and the environment in which it’s taught, is worth what they’re charging families. Not to mention that the staff break room is like the size of a closet, and even in that tight space, many people just aren’t very friendly and hardly acknowledge your presence.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Lindamood-Bell. We appreciate that our mission of helping students reach their learning potential resonated with you. At the same time, we are disappointed to read your comments regarding training, scheduling, and your experience with our instructional model. Our initial training is designed to prepare clinicians to begin working one-to-one with students using our unique approach. That training continues through ongoing mentoring and instructional guidance from experienced staff members who oversee lesson planning, monitor student progress, and support instructional quality. This team-based model is central to our instructional approach and to supporting student outcomes. We regret that the purpose and value of this model were not evident during your employment. We also recognize that learning center work can be demanding, particularly during busy periods, and we appreciate your perspective regarding scheduling and the work environment. Feedback such as yours is valuable as we continue working to improve communication and the overall staff experience. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
