Pros

I work within the Training and Certification department of the Linux Foundation. I love the people that I work with all the way to our SVP, Clyde who knows everyone in the department by their first name and is very easy to talk to and reason with. My manager has been wonderful to work with in the short time that he's been with us so far (and I hope he sticks with us for the foreseeable future!). Because of his management skills, the engineers get to focus on technical problems and have the guidance and assistance needed to navigate relationships inside and outside of the engineering team. Work-life balance is great since, for the most part, you get to decide when and how you work as long as you are available for the scheduled meetings as well. Engineers in the team have an implicit core working hours where everyone can coordinate with each other in real time (be it via chat or a call) but even that is decided by the engineering team and not imposed by management. Despite this what sounds like flexibility-to-a-fault team attribute, teammates still strive to be productive and helpful on their own accord which is a great combo that produces a working environment that is conducive to engineer happiness! This one's pretty obvious but you get to work from anywhere in the world. We have teammates who work from home for most of the year but also work in other countries of their own choosing for extended periods (e.g. 1~3 months). Teammates are very technically capable and produce solutions that are up to industry standards. Never a dull moment when the engineers come together to work on a technical problem.

Cons

Pay is great full stop. There's some legacy code that's poorly designed which was inherited by the team some time ago. This is a big problem since it holds the team back from achieving its full potential. On the other hand, the team is working hard to tame this monster while juggling other priorities including maintenance, technical improvement, and requests coming in from the business side of the department. Benefits are great but a comprehensive health insurance is missing for employees in some countries leaving them to purchase individually (thus, with little-to-no negotiating power). On the other hand, we get refunded on a monthly installment basis for that so it's not so bad. Some countries also are not given the equivalent of the US' 401k. This would be wonderful if we also had that benefit.

Pros

The work was mostly remote.

Cons

Managment was horrendous. They were a group of liars who were only out for their own best interests and didn't care about their employees at all.
