Cons
It’s impossible to get ahead unless you’re willing to be underpaid for two years. Promotions come around every quarter, but you will be talked out of it by your manager as they explain gaps. Mind you, during your regular 1:1s, these gaps are never identified and no plan is made to address them. For example, I was denied a promotion to Engineering Manager. I was told that I needed more experience managing senior Devs, although there was never an opportunity to do so. It was mind boggling because no matter how hard I communicated that I wanted to learn and be more involved, I was told no. Mind you, these managers had me operating as a manager for 8 months without the title. A wealthy company is wildly frugal. As innovative as it sounds, it’s a corporation. They can’t hang with other tech companies and be as nimble. Trivial decisions take weeks because of meetings that people require. I watched that smartest, most talented people come and go as they realized that they can get triple the amount of work and recognition somewhere else.
