Pros
The work is so broad that there is a lot of opportunity to learn about various programming: AmeriCorps, real estate, building sustainable communities, etc. If you are a hard worker, a good critical thinker, and willing to learn, you will gain a lot of insight and skill. Great local staff. Addition of Intranet for sharing resources helped with efficiency and skill sharing.
Cons
The organization is incredibly mismanaged. There is a high turnover at all levels. Decisions are made and changed repeatedly, depending on which level management is interested at any given moment. At times, there is a disturbing lack of professionalism by upper management. The staff on the ground do an incredible amount of work but there is a disconnect between their achievements and the contributions of those overseeing them. Consultants with long-standing relationships have strong roles in local offices with unclear boundaries. The organization does not promote from within - most staff must leave the company and then get hired back into a more senior role. Multiple offices with full staff turnover.
