Avoid at All Costs - Anonymous employee Long Island University Employee Review

- You will be doing the job of at least 4 different employees. They get rid of job titles, and then condense all the work so that you have an enormous amount responsibilities, impossible to achieve in a given work day. People quit, and instead of hiring new employees you just take on their tasks. - Stuck picking up the slack of former employees - the Marketing team went through a huge overhaul, and the current Marketing team had to clean up all of their past messes while still managing their own daily work load. - Department Managers will bad-mouth other employees to you, behind their backs. - Technology is antiquated and outdated, which makes daily work take twice as long. - Department Management lives in fear of the President, and will do whatever she wants because they fear for the safety of their positions. I had a Department Manager tell me that the President was incorrect about something, but we had to do it her way anyway because "that's just how it's done, we do what she wants and her word is final." - President involved in every single minute aspect of Marketing - opinionated, no regard for industry standards, uneducated in field but insists her word is right rather than the employees who actually have degrees in the subject. - Upper management literally has no loyalty to their employees, only their own paychecks. They will throw you under the bus to grease their own pockets. - No regard for the learning curve that comes with starting a new position. They expect you to know the ins-and-outs of University practices, without ever actually discussing them or even training you. - Impossible deadlines, without realistic approach to the length of time it takes to complete a project. These "fast-tracked" projects don't end up getting done properly, or require an enormous amount of time spent at home on personal (unpaid) hours to complete them. - Zero employee morale. Coworkers bemoan about wanting to quit on literally a daily basis. No one I encountered liked their job, everyone was there to survive and get their next paycheck even it it meant being miserable. - No recognition of a job well done, or all the hours you have sacrificed from your personal time. - Always on the clock - upper management would expect you to work off hours/no overtime, to complete projects. Urgent emails and phone calls at 11pm. - Extremely high turn-around, almost no employee retention. - Anxiety is a daily part of the job. I have never been so miserable in a workplace environment.
