Pros

The stability of LA County is the most valuable part. Knowing that you will not be fired from the company if you follow the rules, is a priceless pro There can be easy access to passion in your work. This is a public servant role, your purpose is to help the community of Los Angeles County. There are projects that can expedite your growth, if you seek them I did not do a lot of coding since I was a Program Manager with the title of Application Developer 2.

Cons

You will not be paid the same amount as public sector Things move very slow. Tons of Red Tape because you are upheld by standards set by Board of Supervisors and its constiuents.

Pros

Great place to learn as a nurse and serve the community. Generally good camaraderie amongst staff. Good job stability and good benefits despite lower hourly pay than other top hospitals in the area.

Cons

Things are tightening up with ongoing reports of the "budget crisis." The working environment greatly varies by manager. You don't pay into social security, so many staff who work many years at the county feel "handcuffed" here because of the retirement benefits.
