Pros

Good place to work on the editorial side. Everybody is professional and does their job well. You are allowed to work and create content in your own style without a lot of second guessing by editors. Hours are flexible.

Cons

The parent company is the typical corporation, looking to cut expenses where they can as ad revenues continue to decline. Newspapers have been and continue to be in financial turmoil, as they have not adapted to the changes over the last twenty years. There may not be a way for them to exist in their current format.

Pros

The management was supportive and responsive. I never had any issues.

Cons

It is a far commute for those who are remote and need to work in the office.

Pros

Good focus on long-form writing and journalism; lots of lovely people worked here and there was a nice community outside of the office; felt like a legit civic institution that people in L.A. care about.

Cons

Uneven management with unclear long-term priorities and conflicting top-down mandates. Not very willing to collaborate with the union.
