Pros

My team was fantastic. The actual day-to-day experience in the store was great. We gelled and did a great job of meeting customers where they were at and making great sales. There was some flexibility in the workday since the walk-ins rate is low, so as long as you're at 100% when the customers are there, you'll make a lot of sales. Sold over 500k of couches in under one year as a part-time employee.

Cons

This company does everything it can to not pay its bottom line employees what they're worth. National sales goals that your work has no real effect on and that always seem to be projected about 1% above what we end with. Absolutely no commission, paltry and pathetic raises (I got a 1.7% raise in my first year despite being a stellar employee and was told that it was because nationally we didn't hit our sales goals (99.8% the quarter before). When talking with HR about problems with the incentive structure of the company, they assumed I hadn't seen my raise yet and that I would feel better after seeing it, which I proceeded to then tell them was not helpful as it was below the average national inflation rate in a year when inflation was double the average). Upper management micro-manages and puts a TON of time, money, and energy into finding "creative" solutions to their problems. Chief among them being struggles with recruitment. While I was working there, they spent astronomical amounts to bring managers from the company to an event where they spent two days making powerpoints with incredibly middling solutions to these problems, including paying for every manager to have a subscription to an electronic business card so that on their own time they could stand in malls and get passerby to try to sign up for job interviews. Meanwhile, we are regularly sellling couches ranging from 8k-20k, with manufacturing costs at 9%. That money is being eaten up by a bloated middle-management corporate structure. In the last months I was there, instead of paying employees more or re-working the incentive structure, the company put in a new position to manage between the district manager and individual stores. All this did was bring expensive micro-management into our stores, killing morale and productivity. When the CEO visited and asked for our feedback, I told him that this isn't a viable long-term position, and that if the structures weren't re-worked that they would continue losing out on fantastic sales people and employees. He told me that "Lovesac has always succeeded by staying lean." (See: Not paying its employees enough to survive). The next week he posted a series of photos on his Instagram of him and his family taking a vacation on a yacht. Lovesac is a fantastic product with the potential to do really well in the market. But it is hamstrung by a lack of commitment to its sustainability principles, both in the product/packing/logistics design, and more importantly in the way it cares for its employees. No benefits for part-timers, no appetite to turn part-timers full-time, Paltry pay, lots of middle management and lip-service. The job is not sustainable. They talk a good talk ("We're a family here!") and have nothing to meaningfully back it up. I survived on credit while I was here. The only thing that kept me able to work here was that at times I was able to do freelance design work during quiet periods to stay afloat. I've heard that this company was great to work for before they went public. Now it's all about shareholder profits above all else. They're gutting their company for marketing money. If you're a teenager or college student, this is a great starter job. For anyone else, they have no interest in investing what it's worth to attract great people and get them to stay. If you work here, get a year on your resume and get your references glowing, then apply to ANY of the other furniture stores around you that pay commission. You deserve to have your effort and sales directly affect your ability to live a good life.

Cons

This is one of the most toxic environments I’ve experienced. Morale is extremely low, leadership operates through fear and favoritism, and employees are treated as disposable. The company proudly promotes its core values, yet leadership and HR consistently fail to embody them in practice. HR exists to protect the company, not its people. If management decides they want you gone, they will find or manufacture a reason to justify it. Critical thinking, honest feedback, and challenging the status quo are discouraged. The only way to survive is to stay quiet, act like a robot, never question decisions, and color strictly within the lines they draw.
