Pros

Initially, my team was the highlight of my job. I loved working with every partner and enjoyed what I was doing to support the company’s initiatives. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse due to new leadership that was toxic to our team.

Cons

If you're considering applying to a corporate position at Lowe's, I urge you to think twice. This company has a toxic environment and doesn't value its associates. They only give Thanksgiving and Christmas off, and you have to use your PTO to take off any other holidays. And if you think this policy will ever change, think again - Lowe's claims it's "too expensive" to offer more time off. I worked at Lowe's for almost 2 years, and it started out great. Our leader was collaborative and encouraged us to do our best work. But after leadership changed, everything went downhill. The focus shifted to running the department like a business, and silent layoffs became the norm. Work/life balance became non-existent as we were expected to do more work in less time with fewer resources. I became obsessed with my work because it was never good enough. I sacrificed time with my family to work long hours and weekends to meet unrealistic deadlines. And despite my efforts, my leader never took the time to coach or develop my skills. Instead, I was constantly criticized until I was unexpectedly laid off, with my position eliminated and my termination effective immediately. But Lowe's didn't want to let go of me entirely - they encouraged me to apply for another position so they wouldn't have to take back my equipment. They wanted me to become a workhorse somewhere else in the company. Don't be fooled by Lowe's claims of being an "Employer of Choice" - it's just a marketing tactic. Save yourself the stress and disappointment. Look for a company that actually values its associates and treats them with respect.

Pros

Some amazing customers and coworkers. Tasks and systems were easy to learn. Sometimes you get lucky and have amazing ASMs and SMs. It's easy to get a good survey when you treat customers like friends, be honest about what you do and don't know, and work to learn what you don't. That goes a long way with customers. I personally truly loved my job and loved spending as much time as I could at work.

Cons

Once you are on someones S*** List they will make it possible to get rid of you. Management only follows policy when it benefits them. Some people get promoted when they have no business working in retail as a leader. The A/C in the store I worked in was always broken during the summer, which made it miserable to work. Some customers are entitled due to they way management will kiss their butts to keep from losing a sale or getting a bad review. Management will make a paper trail to write you up if you mess up or are struggling instead of helping you better yourself. Management does not care about employees' work-life balance. Management does not care if their employees are struggling with personal issues like car troubles, health issues, financial issues, etc. Management will get rid of great employees but keep people who don't pull their weight. Once I hit burnout, instead of helping me, I was punished by my managers. In turn making me hate a job I truly loved.
