No work life balance - ASM- Assistant Store Manager Lowe's Home Improvement Employee Review

Pros

Honestly any pros are outweighed by the cons so I honestly can’t say there is an actual benefit or “PRO”

Cons

I have literally watched marriages and families destroyed because of the ASM schedule. 60 plus hours a week, schedule changes constantly, expectation is unreasonable. You are provided very few associates because pay is horrible and retention is terrible. Constant hour cuts for part-time associates while the hours of the ASM are ridiculous. You get texts at home all hours of the day and night and on off days. I’ve been in group texts where the store manager told another ASM “ I want this task completed today, day off or not” literally taking his day off away from him with the threat of discipline. It was a cart of power tools in a cart that needed put back in the sales floor and had not been done for a day. It’s a tragedy that Lowes demand on ASMs makes them choose between family and job!

Pros

Lowe's is a great place to build a career. As an assistant manager, I've had the opportunity to meet the CEO. His message was clear. He didn't care what you looked like or where you come from. If you are willing to work hard abide by the companies core values there is a place for you here. As someone that has been promoted from within, this company truly stands behind that.

Cons

It's retail, so work/life balance can get out of what if you let it.

Pros

The job offers great benefits, and you have the opportunity to learn a lot about different home improvement skills as well as get a better understanding of general contracting as a whole, if you apply yourself. Most fellow associates are kind and helpful and fantastic to work with, really fostering the idea that corporate likes to push of being a 'family'.

Cons

You will be worked hard with a skeleton crew and given every excuse under the sun by management as to why even the simplest improvements can't be done, Customers are generally nice, but there are a fair amount of them that will abuse or insult you for not knowing everything about everything in the store. Favoritism definitely thrives there, with people possessing better skills being passed over for opportunities by people who are more chummy with the right people.
