Pros

Wonderful work-life balance. I was allowed to work from home as needed, the vacation schedule is very generous. Not much overtime expected. A lot of freedom in getting the job done - a great place for independently-minded workers. MIT is a fun place! The staff gets to participate in many of the events and extra-curricular activities for students such as the sailing club, MIT fitness center, etc. Food trucks. Enough said.

Cons

In most academic support roles there is no clear career path. This makes it tricky to progress in a career if you're in administration.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
