Pros

Lots of peer groups to help you improve your personal and job skills All job openings are posted and it is up to the individual whether to apply (i.e. your supervisor isn't involved).

Cons

Won't necessarily get career guidance or training via your supervisor. Coordination across departments often occurs based on who you know (sometimes a pro) rather than process

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
