Pros

World class reputation, opens doors for you once you finish. Great networking opportunities, world class talent anywhere you look. Boston is right there, so you can get the sophisticated urban experience if you wish.

Cons

Competition can be detrimental to both physical and mental health (just look up suicide statistics). Minorities are treated like crap (effectively a racist and sexist environment, not sure anything can be done about this as the very nature of the place limits accountability due to its Darwinian nature). Not sure the people in power respect the students (not all, of course, but many if not most). One needs to decide whether all this outweighs the prestige of the degree and its advantages when you finish.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
