Pros

Health benefit options are fantastic, if expensive; many inspired people who are engaged with the larger world; some interesting work is available if you can get your manager to support your own professional interests and desired work-path

Cons

Hours can be long; inflexible on remote work and very "traditionalist" in many ways despite being on the cutting edge of technology; pay is average, as is vacation time, etc. They are one of the few universities in the area that does not give their staff winter break (week between Christmas and New Year's) off with pay.

Pros

High quality core facilities and well resourced labs. Countless brilliant colleagues who can serve as mentors and collaborators

Cons

Students and Postdocs are expensive due to high overhead, so unreasonably high productivity is often expected compared to other institutions. PIs are typically stretched very thin. Most departments/labs are very space limited which makes it harder to do safe and productive research.
