Pros

I quite liked my coworkers, and I thought most of my projects were genuinely interesting.

Cons

I honestly don’t see this company lasting another five years, and a lot of current employees have seen the writing on the wall and are actively looking to jump ship. I don’t say this lightly or out of bitterness- it is my opinion that I just don’t see how a company that is consistently hemorrhaging employees, clients, morale, and reputation not falling under the weight of it’s own awful decisions. The economic struggles aren’t entirely their fault due to tourism to the states tanking and people having less money to go to places than before, but a significant part of what is in their control has been fumbled at every possible turn. There is such a stark divide between the upper echelons of MMGY and those dastardly regular employees who dare to say things like “I cannot do five people’s jobs”, or “this particular senior employee is an awful person who gets clear priority and protection in a way that any other well run company would’ve fired her months ago.” It feels like the senior leadership is doing everything possible to save their own wallets before the company inevitably gets run into the ground, and that they can be as dismissive and greedy as they please with the normal employees, because there are no internal standards whatsoever from leadership. They can have layoffs before holidays, they can pause raises with no clear plan for ever having them again, and they can treat the remaining employees with a callousness rarely seen since bullies in high school. I don’t know how they walk into work everyday knowing that the vast majority of the building loathes them. In a more general sense, there isn’t really a solid business model to pull MMGY out of their economic woes either. There isn’t anything particularly innovative, and involves a lot of bandwagoning of “everyone else is shooting themselves in the foot with AI, so we will too!” Even doing PR and sanitizing the war crimes of a brutal regime (“they’re just misunderstood” repeated ad nauseam in a quarterly meeting, while not expanding on that any further) doesn’t seem to have gotten them more profit. Again, there’s no real standards anymore- whatever jingling keys is flashed in front of senior leadership, especially with the right keywords like AI and fear of missing out, they take with eager hands, and it is embarrassing to watch. No standards internally has lead to no standards externally and a loss of business, despite the lower level employees doing the absolute best they can. If someone showed leadership a Cocomelon video promoting an AI initiative that promised money trees that grew on pixie dust, they would take it, before predictably cutting employees and benefits even further when it so obviously doesn’t pan out.

Pros

You learn very quickly how not to treat people and what not to do as a leader. Great place to motivate you to want better for yourself.

Cons

MMGY is private equity owned and from what I’ve seen MMGY checks all the boxes of the standard PE operating playbook, acquire, cut costs, slash pay and benefits, increased workloads, degrading culture, mass layoffs, then sell at profit at the end. PE ownership is generally bad for employees by design. The incentive structure prioritizes investor returns over people and the cycle usually isn’t long enough for them to invest in staff. The CEO’s message on this was made clear in an all company meeting, if you don't like it, leave. This statement is the opposite of leadership, it’s complete indifference to how staff feels or that they might have any concerns. It’s someone who's run out of answers and stopped pretending to care. If you are reading this because your company was just acquired by MMGY, I’d run fast.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We're sorry to hear that your experience has led you to feel this way. It's clear from your comments that you have concerns about the direction of the company, leadership decisions, and the impact those decisions have on employees. While we recognize that not everyone will agree with every decision that is made, we believe it's important to acknowledge that there are often many factors that influence business decisions, and employees may not always have visibility into the full context behind them. You also referenced remarks made during a company-wide meeting. We understand that messages shared during periods of change can be interpreted in different ways, particularly when viewed through the lens of personal experience. Our intention is always to communicate openly and transparently, even when the topics being discussed are difficult or complex. Regarding your comments about private equity ownership and its impact on the business, MMGY Global has operated under private equity ownership for many years, and throughout that time we have continued to invest in our people, serve our clients, grow our capabilities, and expand our global footprint. While there may be differing opinions about ownership structures and business strategy, our focus remains on building a strong, sustainable organization for our employees, clients, and partners. As a current employee, we encourage you to continue sharing your concerns with your manager, HR representative, or COE leader. Open and constructive dialogue remains one of the most important ways we can better understand employee perspectives and continue moving forward together. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
