Pros

I really enjoyed working for MMGY for the first year and a half that I worked there. On the ground level, I worked with some of what I consider the hardest working and smartest people I've worked with in technology. Company events used to be a really fun time, although right before leaving, they had taken on a more formal and less enjoyable atmosphere due to the need to appear more professional and organized for the acquired companies. There are opportunities to work on some big name clients, which was very cool. The amount of work I was able to produce in 3 years at the company is astounding and allowed me to improve the quality of my work through repetition.

Cons

Upper management is very concerned with rapid growth and getting the client, but isn't so much concerned with a long-term strategy or getting the job done right once the work comes in. Leadership abandons projects after they are acquired and will only come in to "help" in the case where a mess gets made by an inexperienced account manager or when a discrepancy in the statement of work is found. Egos run amok at MMGY leadership, and I had a small glimpse into how the people running this company behave themselves during business travel and I completely lost respect for a majority of them. If you're in the right group, it seems that you can get promotions, featured articles on the website, credit at company events, no matter what your behavior is like. As a tech worker, I found that leadership had no clue how to sell or utilize technology in advertising. While there are strengths amongst the different channels at the agency (PR, Media, Print), the steam really struggled to sell websites, apps, and other modern platforms to clients. This lack of new business has resulted in layoffs and other questionable personnel changes in the most recent year.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so happy to hear that you were able to work with some of the amazing, hard-working people we have here. Like any organization that has (and continues to have) significant growth, some of our managers and leaders have indeed been stretched thin at times. We’ve noticed this as well, and have made several investments specific to training and other resources to ensure we’re able to provide world-class leadership across the organization. With the goal of supporting the business as we continue to grow moving forward, we’ve also invested heavily in new positions across the organization. If any concerns exist related to ethics or behaviors, we desperately want to hear those from you and strongly encourage you to reach out to our new SVP, Human Resources (wkubik@mmgyglobal.com) directly so that we can investigate appropriately. Thank you again for your feedback, as well as for your hard work and contributions to MMGY global during your time here. We wish you nothing but the best and please feel free to reach out if you’d like to share more directly of your ideas and feedback. -Jenn Toro, HR Partner

Pros

You learn very quickly how not to treat people and what not to do as a leader. Great place to motivate you to want better for yourself.

Cons

MMGY is private equity owned and from what I’ve seen MMGY checks all the boxes of the standard PE operating playbook, acquire, cut costs, slash pay and benefits, increased workloads, degrading culture, mass layoffs, then sell at profit at the end. PE ownership is generally bad for employees by design. The incentive structure prioritizes investor returns over people and the cycle usually isn’t long enough for them to invest in staff. The CEO’s message on this was made clear in an all company meeting, if you don't like it, leave. This statement is the opposite of leadership, it’s complete indifference to how staff feels or that they might have any concerns. It’s someone who's run out of answers and stopped pretending to care. If you are reading this because your company was just acquired by MMGY, I’d run fast.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We're sorry to hear that your experience has led you to feel this way. It's clear from your comments that you have concerns about the direction of the company, leadership decisions, and the impact those decisions have on employees. While we recognize that not everyone will agree with every decision that is made, we believe it's important to acknowledge that there are often many factors that influence business decisions, and employees may not always have visibility into the full context behind them. You also referenced remarks made during a company-wide meeting. We understand that messages shared during periods of change can be interpreted in different ways, particularly when viewed through the lens of personal experience. Our intention is always to communicate openly and transparently, even when the topics being discussed are difficult or complex. Regarding your comments about private equity ownership and its impact on the business, MMGY Global has operated under private equity ownership for many years, and throughout that time we have continued to invest in our people, serve our clients, grow our capabilities, and expand our global footprint. While there may be differing opinions about ownership structures and business strategy, our focus remains on building a strong, sustainable organization for our employees, clients, and partners. As a current employee, we encourage you to continue sharing your concerns with your manager, HR representative, or COE leader. Open and constructive dialogue remains one of the most important ways we can better understand employee perspectives and continue moving forward together. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
