Cons

The challenge lies in managing with constrained labor hours within the context of the food industry, despite its inherent high turnover rate. The issue further compounds due to the low wages offered to team members, making talent attraction and retention difficult. This scenario often necessitates hiring individuals who may not be the best fit, impacting the workload of existing employees. This dilemma forces a decision between maintaining a lean team, resulting in personal sacrifices for managers, or compromising efficiency by increasing labor to accommodate the systematic changes being sought. The corporation's pursuit of streamlined operations overlooks the uniqueness of each location and role, leading to suboptimal results. A more effective approach involves testing ideas across various store volumes and making nuanced adjustments, rather than aiming for a uniform solution that fails to address the intricate challenges faced. The situation becomes complex when one considers the expectation for a supervisor-level individual to function within a role that pays significantly less than that of an associate-level counterpart. The challenge is compounded by the retention strategy employed, which involves acknowledging the individual's commendable job in managing teams and optimizing labor costs while simultaneously requiring them to take on an extensive workload. This approach, coupled with the lowest wage structure relative to industry standards, creates a delicate balance between acknowledging performance and compensation concerns. This wage disparity becomes even more evident when comparing it to other industry standards. For instance, an entry-level position at Starbucks as a Barista, primarily responsible for tea and coffee preparation, restocking, cleaning, and customer service, commands a starting wage of $16 per hour, excluding tips. In contrast, a similar role at MOD, involving cooking, pizza assembly, restocking, and cleaning, pays $11 per hour, excluding tips. This stark difference in compensation presents a considerable challenge in attracting and retaining talent. Moreover, when comparing positions at other establishments like Panda Express, which offer higher compensation for equivalent responsibilities, it raises the question of how to effectively incentivize individuals to choose MOD when their knowledge and skillset could earn them more elsewhere.

Pros

Fun place to work, fast paced environment, often pleasant coworkers, flexible schedule, decent tips, great location.

Cons

Original family that started the chain had to sell (2004). The corporation that bought it seems to be trying to run it into the ground. Took away benefits and perks from employees, swapped out higher quality products for cheap, low quality products, and to cut their own costs down, won't allow enough team members to work a shift, leaving us short handed and overworked. Customers paid the price by having excessive wait times for their food and frequently walked out. It was embarrassing! Our store didn't have a manager for a full year, which only added fuel to the fire. What started out as one of my favorite jobs of all time turned into nothing less than a nightmare.
