Pros

MOD creates a culture of inclusivity and teamwork that makes it really easy to enjoy coming in to work, to interact with peers and customers. It's a pretty basic food service job that's fast paced and offers quite a decent amount of money in tips shared across a split tip pool for non-salaried employees. Management clearly has a commitment to health and food safety as they hold a third party safety review monthly to assess store's compliance.

Cons

Training from corporate-down gets lost in translation very easily, with "MOD Standard" often devolving into whatever standards work for the store, and a revolving-door of leadership with management being hired and fired/quit rather frequently. At times, store managers will be monitoring multiple stores at once, leading to sloppy mistakes in scheduling consistent hours, and lazy hiring practices. Many new hires seem unqualified and short lived, leading to chronic staffing issues and burnout for those who remain. They also engage in some unfair labor practices as they have no union, so raises on merit are non-existent, making claims of competitve pay false. The only upward mobility is through promotion, which many avoid due to the high workload for only a dollar or two more. There are also is forced arbitration non-negotiable that was rolled out to employees, preventing any further future class-action lawsuits.

Pros

Fun place to work, fast paced environment, often pleasant coworkers, flexible schedule, decent tips, great location.

Cons

Original family that started the chain had to sell (2004). The corporation that bought it seems to be trying to run it into the ground. Took away benefits and perks from employees, swapped out higher quality products for cheap, low quality products, and to cut their own costs down, won't allow enough team members to work a shift, leaving us short handed and overworked. Customers paid the price by having excessive wait times for their food and frequently walked out. It was embarrassing! Our store didn't have a manager for a full year, which only added fuel to the fire. What started out as one of my favorite jobs of all time turned into nothing less than a nightmare.
