Pros
Standard benefits, but a fairly generous amount of vacation time. I've received close to 20 days/year since I started. Annual bonuses have always been more or less consistent. This year's was lower because of the effects of the pandemic on sales. Generally friendly coworkers.
Cons
Macmillan, like most major educational publishers, are trying to make more with less, and that amounts to heaping more and more work on associate-level employees and middle management. At the same time, they lack a clear or coherent path of advancement for associate-level employees, so every year I've been here, I've seen more responsibilities expand laterally but not vertically. Since I've been there, Macmillan has cut a lot of its developmental editors in lieu of using contractors. This would be one of the natural positions for an associate-level editor to move into, so Macmillan may be sending a message that these editorial roles may not exist in the future, or at least as they do now.
