Pros

- high turnover and thin staffing means many opportunities for advancement, taking on additional responsibilities - smart, hard-working colleagues - open-door policy (for some management) - regular communication from upper-level management

Cons

- extensive interview process (and disorganised HR), tends to alienate potentially strong candidates - compensation/bonuses don't reflect the long hours, dedication and hard work that's expected - outdated technology/systems, and little (if any) investment planned in this area - too much politics and bureaucracy (more than most comparable firms on the Street) - no loyalty or appreciation...yesterday doesn't matter, it's always "what have you done for me today?" - stress, stress, and more stress (did I mention stress?) - zero work/life balance - extremely low team morale - ineffective management (they tend to promote strong team players, rather than those with the actual skillset to be successful managers) - Sydney management doesn't get the US business model, or how to succeed in the US market, which makes for a very confused, disorganised corporate culture in NY (torn between Aussie and US standards)

Pros

You are safe if you are Australian or a boot licking Manager/Director. Benefits are great. Free breakfast and lunch.

Cons

Extremely toxic culture especially in the Houston office. Trade compliance systems are a complete joke. They have no way of finding out of a trader is actually committing violations because systems are so bad and lag months back. Lots of image shining to hide the true picture behind closed doors. Do not trust the percentage of Bonus/Raise they pitch you. The bonus is 1% not 10-20% Lots of internal politics, local management keeps promoting each other every year while the rest of the hard workers watch. A little bit of a cult vibe when it comes to culture. Organization loves overstepping boundaries between personal and professional life. They want you to live and breathe Macquarie 24/7/365 Promotion process made extremely complicated for everyone EXCEPT the inner clicks. Annual performance reviews involve baiting each other by asking team members to score you.
