Pros

The starting pay was appealing and my department had rotating weekends off. For me, working at my own accord with out anyone telling me to do this and do that all the time was a welcome change from retail; but of course that doesn't mean you can go as slow as you like. It is a fast paced job. My co-workers were helpful and great to talk to. The nurses and doctors were always appreciative of our help. I was only there for about 6 months, but that was just because I moved out of state in 2023. Helping out with helicopter landings felt like a bonus to me. If I return to the area, they are the first on my list for a job.

Cons

-Short staffed, but I found it to be not overwhelming. -It's not a place for people who are scared about getting sick in the hospital, but we used protective equipment when we worked in rooms with precautionary signs. Hand sanitizer dispensers are mounted everywhere. And people there who have worked Housekeeping for years haven't tracked a sickness from work.

Pros

I have worked at MaineHealth for over 14 years and have had the opportunity to grow through five promotions. What started as a better job opportunity has become a career I am genuinely committed to. My experience has been positive overall, with strong mentors, good colleagues, and meaningful work that supports people who are helping others. I have generally felt trusted, challenged, and able to grow.

Cons

Healthcare is challenging, and rural healthcare brings real financial and operational pressure. MaineHealth is a large organization, so communication and decision-making can sometimes feel slow or uneven depending on the area. Not every decision will make sense to every employee in the moment, even when there are good reasons behind it. Like most corporate structures, I think communication is something that will always need work.
