Pros

I worked as a traveling nurse at Manatee Memorial Hospital from 1/1986-7/1986. The pros of this assignment were the pay rate was very good, the nearby beaches were beautiful, and the patients were very appreciative of the nursing care.

Cons

The cons of this assignment were that the unit was short staffed, the adolescent patients were housed next to the adult unit with no locked door between the units, the one psychiatrist was minimally involved in patient care.

Pros

Co workers are amazing and are what keep most of us there. Close to my home

Cons

Management and higher ups are unhelpful and do nothing to help with short staffing and nurse and patient safety. They are more worried about lining their pockets than safely staffing the units or paying adequately. They will pay huge sign on bonuses to under qualified nurses and refuse to pay retention bonuses to the rest of the staff left picking up the pieces when they make mistakes or leave as soon as their contract is up. Everything is broken, ceilings are always leaking, toilets backed up and smell of sewage, one of the elevators was out for order for 2+ years while they kept building freestanding ERs.
