Cons
Lack of Quality of Life: Management is disconnected with reality when it comes to making employees work overtime, on holidays, oncall, and weekends without any comp days. There is truly no quality of life at Marcum so this place would be perfect for a workaholic bachelor. If you have family, Stay away! For example, if you request a comp day, Management will review how many hours you have worked the past week. Anything lower than 60-65 hours is not eligible for a comp day. Seriously, people had to work on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Superbowl weekend, etc. Lack of Training and Promotions: Training here is abysmal and growth opportunities is non existent. Management prefers to hire from outside instead of promoting eligible people who are looking for opportunities to grow. Lack of a Team: There is really no IT team, just IT people who are housed in the same building. Management fosters backstabbing among peers and encourages people to snitch on one another. This affected the group as a whole with the turnover rate being 200% in the past few years, as described in another post. Yes, the Engineering team has had three complete turnovers in the past 2 years. Remote IT Support and merged IT personnel from new ventures who were engineers before the takeover--are reduced to help desk positions. Lack of bonuses and raises: There are no bonuses at Marcum for IT people because the business does not put this in their budget because we are deemed administrative staff and not professional staff. The raises are really small which does not reflect the amount of overtime people put in.
