Pros

This review is for the law department at HQ in Bethesda, MD. *Smart, talented people in the law department and on the business side *Interesting work. You will learn a lot and never be bored. *Genuinely nice people in the law department *Law department is valued by the Company. Will be a respected business partner. *Opportunities to move over to the business side

Cons

* Horrible work/life balance. You will hear over and over the Company's mantra of "take good care of your associates and they will take good care of the guests and the guests will keep coming back." But it is just a slogan. The Company's actions do not back up its words. *Not only will you work as hard or harder than you ever worked in a law firm, but the pay will be low. Even before the recent run up in law firm associate salaries, Marriott has for years paid below market. *Although the Company values the law department, that value does not extend to compensation or providing appropriate staffing to alleviate a crushing work load. *Extremely limited opportunities to be promoted. Join Marriott if you want to work with great, smart people and build your skills. Avoid it if you want to have work life/balance, be paid at market rates, or have a career track.

Pros

Cafeteria offers good food for a low price. Marriott discounts at other hotels

Cons

The favoritism of employees is backed by corporate. If someone has been working here longer than you, they get to pick and choose what shifts they want. If there is an open shift they also first get to choose whether they want it or not. Lastly if there are cuts, they get to choose if they want to stay or leave before others. The favoritism doesnt stop there. The managers also make them do less sidework, and give them good sections where as new employees are the bottom of the barrel in all aspects. Honestly horrible experience. They dont care about your well being either. Im scheduled opening and closing shifts consecutively which means I get under 4 hours of sleep between shifts. Sleep deprivation is not a joke; do not recommend.
