Pros

-Gain more hands-on experience with pet behavior and some medicine/technology and food sciences/research. -General area of the facilities is nice and secluded. -Work with animals every day. -Maternity/Paternity leave. -Ability to job shadow other areas and departments. -Accrue vacation days after being with the company for 5 years. -Can rollover 40 hours of vacation into the following year. -Some of the people you work with become great friends. -You have the immediate option to adopt a pet once it's placed on the re-homing list. -Good 401k and benefits.

Cons

-Very poor management. -Opinions do not matter. -Voices are not heard. -Communication is non-existent. -Very uncomfortable/non-ideal working conditions. -Mentally exhausting. -Extremely stressful at times. -No work-life balance. -Must work holidays and management does not shorten the work day on holidays. -With rotating schedules, it means for 3-4 years in a row some caretakers will be working 7-8 major holidays each year. -Line management does not listen to you nor help you with your problems in the workplace. They do not care. -Numbers being met are more important to management than well-being. -They definitely play favorites. -Yearly bonuses are not good. -Always a hiring freeze or budget freeze. -No transparency at all. -No room for growth, which then turns into a dead-end job.

Pros

I’ve been at Mars (Yorkville site) for about three months as a Quality Systems Senior Specialist, and so far it’s been a great experience. Everyone has been genuinely friendly, welcoming, and willing to help. The culture feels very supportive—people want to see you succeed and are quick to share knowledge and offer guidance. My manager has been amazing and is truly invested in my growth. She’s helped set clear expectations, encouraged development, and provided the tools and support I need to be successful.

Cons

None so far—still new, but my experience has been very positive.

Pros

Great people who believe in a common mission. Strong leadership and support.

Cons

Budgets and decision making for technical programs are centralized at a high level with little to no consideration for how it affects individual programs and their unique needs. Heavy bureaucracy involved in setting up simple things.
